Create Monitors from Your Sitemap

Instead of adding pages one by one, point LoadFocus at your sitemap and pick the pages you want to monitor. Each selected URL becomes its own performance monitor, using the locations, devices and schedule you choose.

Supported sitemap formats

• XML sitemaps: the standard sitemap.xml format used by most sites.
• Sitemap index files: if your sitemap links to other sitemaps, LoadFocus follows them and collects the page URLs.
• Gzipped sitemaps: compressed .xml.gz files work out of the box.
• Plain text lists: a simple text file with one URL per line.

Steps to import from a sitemap

1. Open the New Website Performance Monitor Configurator and click New Test.
2. Click Import from sitemap next to the URL field.
3. Paste your sitemap URL, for example https://example.com/sitemap.xml, and click Fetch sitemap.
4. The page URLs appear in a list. Type in the filter box to narrow it down, for example blog to see only blog pages. The line above the list shows how many URLs match, and the counter shows how many you selected out of your plan limit.
5. Tick the pages you want, or click a URL to toggle it. Select visible picks everything currently shown, up to your plan limit.
6. Choose location, device and schedule as usual, then run or save. You get one monitor for every combination of selected URL, location and device, named after the page. With more than one location or device, the device and location are added to the name. The form shows how many tests per month this adds up to, so check it against your plan before you save.

Good to know

• Pages you already monitor show a monitored badge and cannot be selected twice, so re-importing the same sitemap never creates duplicates.
• Each import is capped per plan, from 10 to 30 URLs at a time depending on your plan. The counter next to the buttons shows your limit. You can run several imports back to back if you need more.
• On free plans you can fetch a sitemap and preview its URLs, but importing requires a paid plan.
• LoadFocus reads up to 2,000 URLs from a sitemap, and up to 10 child sitemaps of an index (one level deep). A bigger sitemap is cut off and the list says so. The list also draws only the first 200 matches, so use the filter to reach the rest.
• If you already monitor pages on the same site that are no longer in the sitemap, a notice below the list names them and offers Pause monitors or Delete monitors. Delete removes the monitors and all their results. The notice does not appear when the sitemap was cut off.
• If your pages sit behind a login, combine the import with HTTP Authentication. The credentials apply to every monitor created in the batch.
• Set up alerts afterwards to get notified when any of the imported pages slows down.
