Alert Configuration

Alerts tell you when a website performance test result crosses a limit you set. You create one for a test, pick a metric and a condition, choose when to be notified, and choose where the message goes. For a step-by-step walk-through see How to create a new alert.

1. Trigger Alert

The headings and labels below are the ones on the New Alert page. In the New Monitor dialog the same fields are called Active, Select Test and Fail when.

• Enabled / Disabled: the switch next to the step title turns the alert on or off. New alerts are enabled.
• When Page Name: select the test ("Select Test") the alert applies to. Each time that test runs, the alert checks its condition.
• Has Metric: choose what to watch. You can pick a score (Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, SEO), a lab metric (First Contentful Paint, Largest Contentful Paint, Speed Index, Time To Interactive, Total Blocking Time, Cumulative Layout Shift, Page Weight (KB), Requests), or a real-user field metric (LCP, INP, CLS, FCP, TTFB, marked "(field)"). • Condition and value: choose "below", "above" or "regresses by (%)" and enter a value. "Regresses by (%)" alerts when the metric gets worse by at least that percent compared with the rolling median of the last 5 runs. An alert with "above" or "below" on a score or lab metric is also one of the monitor's performance budgets.

Field alerts use real-user Chrome UX Report data for the monitor's device. That data is updated about once a day, so these alerts do not fire instantly like lab alerts.

2. Notify When

Switch on the cases you want:

• a check starts failing
• a check recovers
• every time a check fails

The first two are on by default.

3. To Channels Below

Select one or more alert channels. A channel can be Email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Webhook or PagerDuty, and existing Opsgenie channels keep working. PagerDuty, Opsgenie and Discord alerts are sent on paid plans. At least one is required.

To add a channel, click "Create Alert Channel" (New Alert Channel in the New Monitor dialog), or click Alerts in the sidebar to open the Alert Channels page and click New alert channel there. Test on a channel's row sends a test message. Channels are shared with your team's load tests and API checks, and the alert channel guides walk through each type. Then click "Save Monitor".

To view the details of the alerts for a test, click the alert in the list. The Alert details page shows the previous statuses of an alert.
