Nothing reports a visual regression

Every other kind of bug has a signal. A visual regression has none: the page returns 200, the tests pass, the metrics look normal, and the layout is quietly wrong. It is found by a person noticing, which means it is found late or not at all.

Compare staging to production

Screenshot both and compare them pixel by pixel. Differences are highlighted in red next to the original, so a change is visible rather than described.

Set the tolerance deliberately

A comparison threshold decides how much difference is ignored. Too loose and real regressions pass; too tight and every run fails on rendering noise and gets ignored, which is worse.

Check the design is reachable

Layout shift and slow-loading images are design problems as much as engineering ones. Core Web Vitals put a number on both.

How do I stop small rendering differences failing every run?

Raise the comparison threshold, which is the proportion of difference that gets ignored. The default is 10%.
