What should I ask my team for?

The concurrency at which the system degrades, what fails first, and when that was last measured. If the answer to the last one is over a quarter ago, the first two are historical.

How does this help with cost?

Knowing the real ceiling stops both failure modes: over-provisioning against an imagined peak, and under-provisioning against an optimistic one.

What is an error budget?

The amount of unreliability your target permits. Setting an SLO of 99.9% means a defined allowance of downtime, which makes the trade-off between shipping speed and stability explicit rather than implied.

Do we need to run any of this ourselves?
